Nick ON AIR across the Province of Belluno

This year I have been given the job of producing and hosting a series of radio shows that follows the music competition "Giovani di Note" (Young Musicians), offered to local bands by the Province of Belluno now in its eighth year. My show is aired on five different radio stations throughout the Province of Belluno: Radio Belluno, Radio Cortina, Radio Club103, Radio Più and Radio Primiero. English? Yes, please!

I am delighted to have been asked to collaborate with Belluno Magazine and to create a column in English. My first article, entitled "North of London", has appeared in the second edition of the new free monthly magazine in circulation in the Province of Belluno. If I were a sculptor, but then again no...

...sang Elton John in the hit Your Song, well I decided to give it a go and thanks to a course in Santa Giustina run by three local sculptors I have produced my first wood carving! It's inspired by a sculpture my Grandfather did many years ago. It's currently part of an exhibition in the entrance to the council building at Santa Giustina along with other works from the course.

Here in Belluno during the first week of November there will be the 24th edition of the International Woodcarving Competition (details here: www.bellunocentro.it). It is now very apparent to me just how talented these sculptors are, producing superb sculptures in only a week!

We want your old glasses!

OneSight www.onesight.org, a Luxottica Group Foundation, is a family of charitable vision care programmes dedicated to improving vision through outreach, research and education. There are various ways OneSight offers the gift of vision, one being Global Eye Care with which OneSight Clinic teams travel to developing countries to hand-deliver free vision care and eyewear to those in need.
You can help with your old glasses (not sunglasses) of any size or style, for man, woman or child. If they are a bit broken it's not important as they will be fixed during the process of classification. Search through your drawers at home and then send them to me at Radio Belluno, and we will pass them on to OneSight for the next mission.

Tuesday 1st September at 6.30pm (Italy GMT+1) in studio with me at Radio Belluno will be some volunteers that are going to Ecuador this September to help those who need eye care and eyewear. If you are not able to send your glasses in time for the mission to Ecuador don't worry, because there are already another six missions planned for this year! New site up!
After much of pixel pushing and code crunching it's finally up! I had considered making nicksimcock.com a very simple page leaving mypsace and facebook to handle news, details and contacts, but in the end I decided I wanted MY space! Besides, I want to see what I can get going with php (that's the language behind this website) so I hope to start making this space more interactive. Ciao for now!
